Soul Mate is a common term that has been associated with romantic love relationships and marriage. The definition of a Soul Mate is someone who triggers feelings of a deep and natural kinship and where you experience a sense of familiarity and comfort. Since personal relationships include family, friendships, lovers as well as marriage partners, this could be anyone you feel especially close to in your life. Relationships may or may not be karmic in nature. During our lifetime we will interact with many people we won’t feel a strong connection to, yet who we can learn from and have experiences with. One thought is that a soul chooses its karmic experiences before birth, such as choosing one’s parents. The journalist and author, Ruth Montgomery, was one of the first to write books on this subject. Another thought compares it to a spiritual magnetic pull to parents who match a soul’s karmic needs.
I tend to give faith to that belief because of a dream I had when I was younger. This dream happened long before the new age movement and soul concepts that didn’t follow religious teachings. This is what I remember of the circumstances and the dream. One evening I was in a lot of emotional and mental turmoil. Out of despair and frustration, which was caused by my inability to understand why things were happening the way they were, I asked, “Why is my life this way?” That night a man dressed in robes appeared to me in my dream and told me, “You asked for this.” At the time I didn’t understand what that meant and couldn’t imagine why anyone would ask for such a life. If we take into consideration reincarnation and karma, then the dream makes more sense. The next spiritual level relationship is the Twin Flame or Twin Soul. These terms are used to describe people with whom one feels as though they have found a spiritual twin.
Twin Souls can be deep friendships. Such as the phrase, “like a sister or brother.” Another definition is that one feels as though they have found the other half of one’s soul. Such as finding someone who is like us at the soul level. Lynne V. Andrews wrote a series of books describing her spiritual journey. She wrote that a soul can end a karmic connection during a life time, even though the other soul involved in the relationship may not have ended their connection. This concept would explain how one might feel a deep attraction or connection to a person who doesn’t share the same feelings. The one prevailing misconception regarding these relationships is that they will last until the end of one’s lifetime. Though this could happen, there are no guarantees that they will. Nor are these relationships always happy. If one finds that they are separated from a karmic experience before they have achieved its completion, they will intuitively search to find someone who can help them fulfill this need. When a soul has completed a karmic lesson, they will move on to another.
