We have compiled a guide for how to do a great end-of-tenancy clean. A professional cleaner has also been teamed up to create a series that will give you step-by-step instructions on cleaning key areas of your property.
Do I have to do the end-of-tenancy cleaning?
There are two options for cleaning out a tenancy at the end: either you do it yourself or hire a professional to clean it.
The distance you live from the property and your time availability will impact your decision. Many letting agents will arrange for the end of tenancy cleaning in auckland. If you have some spare time and basic equipment, it may be cheaper to do the end-of-tenancy cleaning yourself.
Cleaning checklist for the end of tenancy
Your property should be spotless for your tenants. While it is important to clean the entire property, there are certain key areas that you need to focus on. We have compiled a list to help you conduct a successful end of tenancy cleaning.
- Get your cleaning supplies. Below are details about individual cleaning products.
- Walls. Look out for scuff marks. These can be removed by rubbing or you may need to repaint portions of the wall.
- Doors. Clean the doors, including the handles. Check that locks work properly.
- Windows. Windows must be cleaned both inside and outside. For exterior windows, you may need to hire a professional window cleaner.
- Ceilings. To clean ceilings, you may need to use an extendable brush. Be aware of cobwebs that may be found in corners of rooms.
- Fixtures & fittings. Take steps to ensure upholstery is clean and free from stains.
- Carpets. Hire a carpet cleaner to clean your carpets. They are easily found at most supermarkets and only cost about PS20 per day.
- Take it one room at a time. Now, you can focus on the problems in each room. For more information, please read on.
End of tenancy kitchen cleaning
It’s one of the most important places to clean after a tenancy ends, but it can also be the easiest place for dirt and grime to accumulate.
Take a look at your kitchen sink. This could need some attention depending on how clean your tenants were. Basic tools such as a non-scratch scrubber, a spray bottle and specialized cleaning liquid are required. Your method will depend on what material your sink is made of, but stainless steel is the most popular.Â
Also, you’ll need to inspect the hob as it can get very grimy. You’ll be able to see the results in no time. You can watch the how-to clean a stainless steal hob video, then how-to clean an extractor fan filter. Although it’s not fun, it’s necessary.
Here are some cleaning tips to clean the entire kitchen. You can find our video and article about professionally cleaning a kitchen.
End of tenancy bathroom cleaning
The next stop is the toilet. You’ll find many different areas here that might require different equipment. The toilet, the bathroom sink, and bathroom tiles are the most important. You’ll need to fix the grouting and head of your shower if you have one.
In four videos, we cover each of these areas step by step. These videos are part of our guide for cleaning a bathroom efficiently and quickly.
Other areas can be cleaned after a tenancy ends
When cleaning out a tenancy, there are many other things that you need to pay attention to. It is important to clean the windows both inside and outside. If your windows are difficult to reach, you will need a professional cleaner. Also, wash the walls to remove any scuff marks. If this fails, you will need to repaint them. You can often cover stubborn scuffs with the same color paint.
Also, curtains should be checked. Although some curtains can be machine washed, curtains can be washed by hand. The curtain rods should be dusted and possibly buffed. Don’t forget furniture! They should be vacuumed at minimum, but you can also use a dry washer to remove dirt and stains.
